Pardon us for getting excited, but this is an exciting story: The Religious Society of Friends, more commonly known as The Quakers, is launching its own MMO! The Quaker-riffic game will be called World of Peacecraft, and will highlight the religious sect's history. According to the Quakers, the game will "extend traditional Quaker values and historic testimonies -- such as their work to end the slave trade, protesting against war, and worshiping in silence -- into an immersive, 3D environment."
Finally, gamers will be able to worship in silence in an immersive 3D environment!
The game promises quests based on great moments in Quaker history, like the founding of the religion in 17th Century England by George Fox as well as adventures based on The Quakers opposition to the slave trade in America.
It's not all rescuing slaves and founding world religions, though. Virtual Quakers also must replenish their Inner Light meters by worshiping with others at any of twenty-five historically accurate Quaker meetinghouses. Each one confers different abilities to the attender, "from enhanced peacemaking to strength in adversity and vocal ministry."
While all this sounds pretty neat, we've heard the combat system is pretty weak, you know, given how the Quakers are pacifists.
World of PeaceCraft due out in stores and online by early December 2008 for PC and Mac. We'll see you there, brother.
