It used to be that if you possessed the minimum technical requirements for a PC game, you could play the game without crashing, though not always at the highest resolution or graphical settings. In order to play a game like it was truly meant to be played,  you needed the Recommended Settings.

In this week's Sessler's Soapbox, Adam is fuming over the recent signs that even having a machine with the Recommended Specs and beyond isn't good enough to allow you to play the game with full lighting effects and graphical power.

What do you think? Should the Recommended Settings only convey the conditions where the game will be stable or should they be the conditions for optimal gameplay? Check out the video and let us know what you think.

When it comes down to it, I consider myself above everything else, a PC gamer. But with money being tight I can't go out and drop 4 grand on the top of the line rig and it's outrageous some of the minimum or even recommended specs on these PC games being dropped these days. I know how to build computers from the ground up and have done so in the past having dropped 2 grand on all the components, only to find that a month later everything I had bought was now outdated and not fast enough. Trying to keep up with the newest and greatest hardware when it comes to PC gaming is completely unrealistic, unless you're some millionaire. Which is why I love my 360, I get all the new games I want on it in HD and I only had to drop 400 bucks for my Elite, whereas I would need to throw down at least another 2 grand to make my PC components up to date.

Bottom line, I agree with the Sess here. We shouldn't have to sit there for 60 minutes trying to configure our video and game settings to a level that actually runs well on our rigs. Even though, most of the automatic config options featured on some PC games is even more outrageous. For instance, I booted up UT2k4 recently on one of my older rigs and allowed it to automatically config the settings, only to find that once the game booted that it was running at 10 FPS. WTF?!?!?! This is why I'm gonna stick with my 360 for the time being, unless I win that lottery.
