Trekkies have a Bond film to attend. The folks over at trekmovie.com are reporting that the first proper trailer for the upcoming Star Trek relaunch is set to debut with the November 14 premiere of Quantum of Solace.
The "Trailer Trojan Horse" method has been used for a while now to boost the box-office take of unrelated films. Apparently, the statistics for its success do not lie. According to trekmovie.com:
Our current poll states that 45% of Trek fans will see "any movie" or "almost any movie" just to catch a glimpse of the trailer. Many Trek fans went to see Cloverfield in its record-breaking opening weekend, just to be the first to see the Star Trek teaser trailer. The same is likely to be true for Trek fans headed to see the new Bond film to see the first theatrical trailer.
This news is coupled with the recent announcement of a publicity tour in a few weeks set to blitz Europe. (No Nazi jokes intended, unless you think it was funny. Hey, didn't Kirk fight "alien Nazis" in one episode anyway?) The Star Trek franchise actually has a lot of work to do as far as its appeal in Europe and the goal is clearly to spread the buzz as early as possible.
Star Trek is set to open on May 8, 2009.
