To all those 52,000 Diablo activists who signed the online petition that demanded a change for Diablo III's art direction, we apologize. Blizzard Lead Designer Jay Wilson said to MTVMultiplayer that "there's no going back now", in changing the art direction to the company's highly anticipated sequel to Diablo II. He added:

“We’re very happy with how the art style is. The art team’s happy. The company’s happy. We really like this art style, and we’re not changing it.”

Wilson said that one of the decisions to make Diablo III's environment a more vibrant one compared to previous titles is to reduce any monotonous color tone throughout the game. "You'll be playing Diablo III for potentially hundreds of hours, and being in one type of environment with one type of look… it really became boring very quickly," said Wilson.

As for the World of Warcraft graphic influence over Diablo III, Wilson said that Blizzard games will most likely be influenced by their own titles. “I think it’s impossible for us to not be influenced by our other creations,” he said. Diablo III for the PC and Macintosh platform will be released "when it's done", according to Blizzard.
