Looks like mums not the word in China, as censors are currently demanding changes to Universal's upcoming movie, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor due out here in August 1st.
"It is too early for me to comment on this until the situation becomes clearer," said Bill Kong, the studio's film distributor in China and Hong Kong. We're guessing that the problem has to do with the Great Wall of China replica built for the film's production...or Brendan Fraser. A spokesman from Universal said that they did not expect any obstacles "in the country where [the movie] was set and shot." Well, neither did China, that's why they're complaining.
The film's release is currently pending in the mainland. China's obviously a huge market for Universal to cash in some stubs. But with no surprise, they prefer pandas over mummies as DreamWorks's animated feature Kung Fu Panda scored big at the country's box office. Maybe Jet Li should consider wearing a panda suit then, then change the name to Panda Emperor. Or on a better note, maybe Jet Li and Jack Black should team up in Tenacious D 2: Chopstick of Destiny. $@#% yeah!
