Director Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man) has signed on to helm a remake of the 1992 Harvey Keitel cult classic Bad Lieutenant.
Nicolas Cage will play the corrupt policeman made famous by Keitel in Abel Ferrara's original, while Val Kilmer will portray Cage's partner and rapper Xzibit will play a villain. Also in the cast are Eva Mendez, Fairuza Balk, Jennifer Coolidge and Brad Dourif.
The original's producer, Edward R. Pressman, will produce the new version with Stephen Belafonte, Alan Polsky and Gabe Polsky. Billy Finkelstein wrote the screenplay, which is based on Ferrara and Zoe Lund's original script. Filming is set to begin later in the summer.
The ‘92 flick followed the rapey antics of a corrupt cop investigating the rape of a nun. And there’s a lot of drugs, violence and…rape.
Now who’s gonna take care of the kid, eh?
