Diablo activists listen up as lead producer Keith Lee has responded to your calling. In an interview with MTV Multiplayer, Lee explains why Blizzard decided to give Diablo 3 a more vivid environment compared to its predecessors.
“One of the things that we considered when we were working on the visuals for ‘Diablo III’ is the fact that color is your friend...," said Lee. You hear that folks? Not everything should be dark and grimy like a bathroom in a rest stop at night. Lee also added that the colors add contrast to the game as it highlights some areas of the environment. "A great analogy is like in the 'Lord of the Rings' - not everything is dark,' said Lee.
Lee also compared the settings between the game were also part of the reason for Diablo 3's art direction:
“‘Diablo I’ and ‘Diablo II’ are darker, and I think that the one of the main reasons why is the fact that in ‘Diablo I,’ you’re basically in a dungeon the whole time. And in contrast to ‘Diablo III,’ you’ll be exploring outdoors...," said Lee.
