If you've never played any of the Oneechanbara games, son, you're missing out.
The gameplay of this Japanese hack and slasher is aggressively average. The controls are so-so. The graphics are serviceable but never impressive. But 'Oneechanbara' makes up for all its averageness with transcendent subject matter: The game's main character is a bikini clad cowgirl with a katana who fights zombies, rides a motorcycle and fights an undead killer whale.
It's dumb. It's perfect. It's the essence of the absurd-awesomeness that gaming could achieve if it wasn't self-consciously mired in becoming a "serious art medium." (We loved Bioshock, but jeez, lighten up.)
Anyway, an 'Oneechanbara' movie is in the works in Japan. Eri Otoguro will play the main character. She told Famitsu: "We filmed during the winter, so it was a little chilly. I don't think you'd see a person dressed like this in winter." No. We don't either.
We're praying to Odin that the movie (and the games) get U.S. releases.
