The big highlight from this morning’s Panasonic's CES keynote speech with President and CEO of the CEA Gary Shapiro was the unveling of their new 150-inch plasma TV. (Pictured is last year's tiny, little 103" Panasonic.)
Calling it the "Life Panel," the resolution is at 4 x 1080p, 4k by 2k, making it “the world's largest flat panel TV.”
Shapiro also revealed that Panasonic is building a new plant to crank these sweet babies.
Plus, Panasonic will be introducing HomeBase, wireless HD, next year. HomeBase employs "Beam Steering Technology," which is only disrupted by placing your hand directly on the antenna. They previewed the technology during the speech by cutting the cables to their HD screen.
Another advancement Panasonic is working on is "true two-way" for interactive TV, or On-demand HD. Panasonic will be building "true two-way" TVs, available later this year, with built-in cable boxes. It acts as a DVR, but has a removable portable component, similar to a portable DVD player, and it also holds a DVD player. They’re calling it AnyPlay and it’s a joint venture with Comcast.
Yet another product in the works is Viera Cast, a joint venture with Google and YouTube, where users can browse and view YouTube videos right from their widescreen TV.
Director James Cameron even stopped by to espouse the joys of the Panasonic equipment he used in the filming Avatar and rave about Panasonic's Life Wall interactive large screen.
"My dream is to replace one whole wall in your home, living room or office,” Cameron said. “Imagine the possibilities. And because we can't bring you to the Life Wall, we brought Life Wall to you."
Funny, my dream is for James Cameron to make another kickass movie…
