A few weeks ago Saturday Night Live alumi Chevy Chase appeared on the news to delivery a little editorial, serving as a tip of the hat to when he hosted the SNL news in the ‘70s.
Turns out Chevy was hired to be a semi-regular on the SNL news, but two things may have derailed that deal:
1. The writer’s strike, which started up the following week, halting SNL and many other shows for an undeterminded amount of time.
2. The poor writing on his debut segment the other week made the sketch go…um…not great.
"The writing wasn’t so good," Chevy recently said (and he knows bad writing….anyone remember The Chevy Chase Show?). Also, he was thrown by the audience giving him a standing ovation. "I didn’t want to overshadow the new kids. I was shocked."
So how did Chase get this second chance at TV glory (well, third if you count the much despised Chevy Chase Show…but no one does)?
"I met with Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers and they hired me," Chase confirmed. "I told them I’d love to come in and do occasional pieces about politics. They’re paying me scale, which is more than I was making when I did the show originally."
Did I mention The Chevy Chase Show?
