Well, kids, looks like this WGA strike is going to last quite some time, and, as our new shows are finishing up their stockpile, we're soon going to be running out of fresh meat to enjoy, television-wise. That's where TheFeed comes in, to help you determine what to do with your miserable life when there's nothing on television.
So, today's recommendations:
- St. Elsewhere (Season One) - The greatest television show of all time. Launched the careers of Howie Mandel, Ed Begley, Jr., Denzel Washington, Alfre Woodard, David Morse, and Tim Robbins. The first season, on DVD for the first time, is all tension all the time. Keep an eye on Peter White. He'll be important later.
- Twin Peaks (The Gold Box) - Contains seasons one and two of David Lynch's most excellent television show that had the world on edge for an entire year back in the late 80's/early 90's. This box contains all the episodes and the pilot, re-released for the first time.
- Afterschool Specials - Back in the 70's and 80's, ABC used to air these hour-long specials...um...after school, to teach kids about important issues like pregnancy and racism. They were award-winning, and often either intentionally or unintentionally hilarious. Check out this box set with 24 (!) hour-long shows.
- ER (Seasons 1-8) - Not only has ER been a great show, and it's been on longer than a lot of you have been alive, but, if you don't know, the first several seasons make up some of the greatest television that's ever been on television. This box set comes in a really cool first-aid box, and comprises 49 discs. Damn!
There. That should keep you busy for a while. Of course, you could always read a book. I mean, would it kill you?
