This morning, TheFeed was given an awesome, awesome gift...the demo for the new God of War game, Chains of Olympus, for the Sony PSP. We just had to play it for you, so you'd know whether or not it's any good.

You know what? It's really good. Like, killer app kind of good. This game is going to sell a lot of PSPs. If you own a PSP, and you've been waiting for a game that truly shows off what the handheld can do, you're in luck, because Chains of Olympus is that game.

Anyone who has experience with the God of War games will be in a familiar place right off the bat. Kratos comes out swinging, and the feel of the game is strikingly similar to the PS2 God of War games you know and love. If you played the PS2 games, you'll be happy to know you can just jump right in and crack skulls, and feel right at home immediately.

Let's talk about graphics. Chains of Olympus looks really good. So good, in fact, that it's like having a PlayStation 2 in the palm of your hand. Next-generation graphics notwithstanding, there's never been a handheld game that looks as good as this one does. That's never, kids. This game is a thing of beauty.

The controls are pretty good, too, using the faux-analog stick and the four shape buttons, as well as the triggers, in much the same way as the original games. It's easy and fun to pull off complex moves. In the demo alone, we were faced with a couple of boss battles, both of which were challenging and fun, and a couple of puzzle elements as well.

Though there was no plot detail in the demo, we're guessing it's going to have something to do with Kratos getting revenge for the way he's been seriously mistreated in one way or another, and cursing the gods for his loss. In other words, though the plot and the cutscenes in God of War are always good, it really doesn't matter, because the game play is so fun and familiar that you won't care.

We can't say enough about how much we like Chains of Olympus. Had Sony chosen to launch the PSP with more games like this one, the system would have easily outclassed the Nintendo DS by this point. Finally, we have a glimpse of what this powerful little handheld machine can really do, and it's a big, big winner.

God of War: Chains of Olympus will be out on the Sony PSP in March, 2008.
