Slayer Wins A Grammy

Ladies and gentlemen, Hell has officially frozen over.

Why now, you ask?

Because Slayer won a Grammy last night!

Yes, America’s heaviest band nabbed a Grammy in the Best Metal Performance category for their delightful ditty, “Eyes of the Insane” over far less brutal cuts from the like of Lamb of God, Mastadon, Ministry, and Stone Sour.

Additionally, Wolfmother scored a statue for Best Hard Rock Performance for their track “Woman,” beating out Buckcherry, Nine Inch Nails, System of a Down, and Tool.

I love the thought of these stuffy Grammy voters having to listen to Slayer, Wolfmother and Buckcherry’s “Crazy Bitch.”

Anyway, the Dixie Chicks were the big winners last night, winning five awards, which served as a kind of collective “We’re Sorry” from the Heartland for slamming them for criticizing the President a few years back. You know, that President we all agree is a numbskull by now. It seems their ballad “Not Ready To Make Nice” from the album Taking the Long Way Home is apparently quite popular.

Among the highlights of the telecast, held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles,
was The Police hitting the stage for their second live public performance since their 1984 breakup for a roaring version of “Roxanne.”

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are The Police, and we're back!" Sting shouted before kicking off the tune.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Mary J Blige each won three trophies, while Gnarls Barkley and Bob Dylan each picked up two. Other winners included Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, The Black Eyed Peas, Tony Bennet and Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams, John Legend and Madonna. Meanwhile, Joan Baez, the Doors, the Grateful Dead, Joan Baez, Booker T and the MGs, Ornette Coleman, Maria Callas and Bob Wills were given Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Did I mention Slayer won a Grammy last night?
