Comic-Con always promises great surprises, big announcements, and glimpses of our pop culture future, and the 2006 edition didn't disappoint. Here's an overview of some of the more important pieces of information distilled from the event. Also, to read more about Comic-Con 2006, check out G4's Comic-Con coverage. You'll be glad you did.

  • The 22nd James Bond film (the one after the upcoming Casino Royale) will open on May 8th, 2008, and will star new Bond Daniel Craig.
  • Sony and Warners showcased new animation projects, including The Ant Bully and Open Season.

  • Peter Cullen, the original voice of Optimus Prime, is being cast in that role in the new Michael Bay Transformers movie, to be released on July 4th, 2007.
  • There will be at least one, and perhaps two, Star Wars television series.
  • David Koepp has written several drafts of Indiana Jones 4, and pre-production is scheduled to begin later in the year.
  • Joel Silver revealed that the Wonder Woman film will be an origin story.
  • Bryan Singer revealed that he will work on a sequel to Superman Returns sometime in 2009, but is not opposed to directing another X-Men sequel in the future.
  • Kurt Russell will star as the villain in the Tarantino part of Grindhouse.
  • Lionsgate revealed clips from Skinwalkers and Crank, and the trailer for Saw III.
  • Footage from Spider-Man 3 was shown, and Sam Raimi revealed that there will not be a Hobgoblin character, but a new Goblin-based baddie that Harry Osbourn will play.
  • Jon Favreau talked Iron Man, and revealed that he had envisioned it as a series of films, and also that he might reprised his role as Foggy Nelson from Daredevil.
  • Paramount revealed the one-sheet for Star Trek XI, which is the rumoured J.J. Abrams project.
  • Frank Miller showed a trailer for the adaptation of his graphic novel 300, which is based on a battalion of 300 Spartans from the Battle of Thermopylae.
  • Ernie Hudson made a reference to the long-awaited Ghostbusters 3 sequel, saying that Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd are on board, with the only holdout being Bill Murray. He also mentioned that Ben Stiller was being considered as a Ghostbuster.
  • The Incredible Hulk, the sequel to The Hulk, was announced, with Abomination announced as the green guy's main nemesis.
  • Marvel also announced filmed versions of Nick Fury and Captain America.
