We're not planning to run a review of GoW Collection, but that doesn't mean that we haven't taken the time to set up some comparison videos detailing the visual differences between both games running on a backwards-compatible PlayStation 3 versus the newly redone game. I've written up some impressions to go alongside the videos, which you can check out here.

In order to properly display the action, the comparison videos focus on two areas: combat and cinematic moments, such as cutscenes or quicktime events. Whether it’s Kratos jamming a Kraken head through a ship mast or climbing into the animated Colossus of Rhodes statue to dismantle it from within, I think the videos speak for themselves.

On this week's episode of Modern Family -- the best new comedy of the year, by the way -- the lovable but clueless Phil laments his wife's inability to give good gifts. After running down a long list of desired items (one of which being a yogurt maker, which is totally practical), he declares "I can't not think of things I want."

We're now in that time of the year where it's easy to find ourselves falling into that mentality. Most of the year's major games have been released, and with all the enthusiastic coverage and discussion surrounding them, it's easy to get game envy. And while it's bordering on trite to say "be thankful for what you have," try not to get caught up in what you don't have. Next week, we're going to be putting up an article or two in the Thanksgiving spirit -- some touchy-feely junk about appreciation and family and sharing things about gaming, because we often forget how important that stuff is.

(Note: that might be an exaggeration on my part) Also included in the DLC pack will be five new smokin' hot rides:

Our sister site FEARnet is beginning to frighten me. I know that's the point, but it's really working now. You'd have to be insane to create a show like its new web series, "Fear News with the Last Girl."

The idea of "Fear News" is that it provides entertainment industry news from inside a horror movie itself. Nubile young news anchor Ginger Marie tells you about new horror flicks while being menaced by lunatics, evil clowns and various ghouls and spooks. It's scary and informative, like Bill Moyers naked with a butcher knife. Check it out:

See what I mean? What kind of twisted mind would conceive of such a thing?  I'm worried about FEARnet. I think they may have gone mad. I haven't heard from anyone in their offices in days, but I keep hearing sounds from behind the locked doors -- sometimes it sounds like an antique dental drill, and sometimes it sounds like an old woman crying. And it smells like a charnel house.

Anyway, I'm just going to go up and visit to make sure everything is okay.  I'll be back in a few minutes...

"Some players may find one of the missions disturbing or offensive. Would you like to have the option to skip this mission? (You will not be penalized in terms of Achievements or game completion.)."

There are two ways to respond. "Yes, ask me later" or "No, I will not be offended." For now, let's set aside the obvious problem that unless you've been closely following the game's development, you don't even know what you're agreeing to not be offended by. But Infinity Ward wants to make sure you're confident about that decision, so they ask it a second time.

"If you answer yes you will never be asked about skipping levels again. (The skip level option will be available in the pause menu.)"

Neither warning provides any context for what constitutes "disturbing" and "offensive" in the typically realism-slanted Call of Duty universe. There is no reference made to an opportunity to mow down hundreds of innocent virtual citizens during a simulated terrorist assault on a Russian airport. When I stood in line at GameStop to pick up my copy of Modern Warfare 2, not only did I wonder how many parents actually read those screens for their kids not old enough to pick up Modern Warfare 2 themselves, but if any would've changed their minds after visiting the ESRB's website.

It's time once again for our weekly round-up of downloadable content for all of your favorite music games. This week was a big one for Fab Four fans as the "Complete the Album Pack" for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band hit The Beatles: Rock Band. KISS lovers also felt the downloadable track love this week, thanks to a three-track pack for Guitar Hero 5. Rock Band players looking to fill out their AFI collection can now do so via a hefty pack as well, while Lips users croon some sultry tunes from Colbie Callait.

You know all those Xbox Live users who were banned  from the network recently for, apparently, connecting modified 360s to Live? Law firm Abington IP is considering filing a class action lawsuit against Microsoft on behalf of interested/eligible ban-ees.

Abington's website is looking for you if you:

"Are an Xbox Live subscriber, had your modified Xbox console banned from Xbox Live, were not refunded a prorated sum for the time left on your subscription or have experienced other problems as a result of being banned, and would like to participate in a class action against Microsoft"

The site also compares the mass-bannination to Microsoft using the "most indiscriminate 'weapons' in its arsenal in an effort to combat piracy," resulting in "a great deal of collateral damage."

I spoke to an attorney at Abington to get a little more info on the potential lawsuit, and he wasn't offering anything on-the-record about the action, so it looks like we're going to have to wait a bit to see how things shape up.

It's been too long since Croteam dropped a new Serious Sam game.
