| Eric Nakamura is our go-to guy when it comes to finding the coolest of the cool new collectibles. As editor of Giant Robot magazine and co-proprietor of the Giant Robot stores, he’s a direct influence on the market for Asian-inflected toys, vinyl dolls, art books, T-shirts, and more. He brought some of his current favorites to the show:
2046: Wong Kar Wai’s newest film, an artsy epic with science fiction overtones, is available in an all-region DVD before its U.S. theatrical release. If you haven’t seen this influential Hong Kong filmmaker’s work before, you might want to start with Chungking Express. And if you like 2046, you should pick up the nicely designed 2046 book. Kaws, a New Jersey graffiti artist who’s hugely popular in Japan, has some new vinyl art dolls out. Devilrobots, the design team behind the Tofu Head series, have issued some cute yet sinister dolls. Yoshitomo Nara toys: The Pupcup, where a dog in a cop floats around in a dream state, and Little Wanderer, a sleepwalking child. |

| iTunes Upgrade Downgrade: Apple restricts the number of people who can access iTunes shared music each day with version 4.7.1.
Just Outta Beta: Now that everyone has an account, Gmail goes public. Telecom Conglomerates Can Rest Easy: Republican FCC commissioner Kevin Martin has been chosen by President Bush to become the new FCC chairman. Another Day, Another Google Feature: Google now lets businesses tend to their own data with its latest tool. |
| God of War Creative Director David Jaffe gave us a preview of his much-anticipated action-adventure game. Set in Greek mythology, God of War combines the puzzle solving of a Zelda title with the raw action of a Devil May Cry game. David says he wanted to create an adult title (it’s M-rated) with gameplay elements you usually find in more innocuous titles.
“Sony was behind it 100 percent,” said David, giving him the resources and the time (three years) to create his dream game. “You really get to unleash your dark side with this game.” We’ll have a web-exclusive interview with David tomorrow. You’ll be able to buy the game March 22. |
| Today we enjoyed the sight of a karate student unable to break a stack of bricks with his head. Unfortunately, because we locate our Web Classics weeks or months before their airdates, the links for clips such as these often change or become void before we actually show them. Therefore, we can only offer you the site where we originally found this web classic, which was www.ebaumsworld.com. |
| This week's User Created challenge is to make a Flash cartoon that reveals What Our Hosts Do During Their Vacation. This neatly ties into the fact that we'll be on vacation next week!
You can use any of the pictures we provide and any of your own. If you use your own images, just make sure you created them. (In other words, no Google image-search pictures!) The deadline is Wednesday, March 30—in the morning, not the afternoon. Go to our User Created submission page for more info. |
| Lars from Albuquerque, NM wanted to know why David Jaffe included sexual content in God of War.
David said he wanted to create an adult experience with God of War. “What I really wanted to do was take the little-kid stuff like Clash of the Titans and mix it with the adult stuff. It’s M-rated, it’s not for kids. It has characters with deeper stories, and sexual sides.” |
Jimmy the Geek made some bold predictions for the NCAA finals: North Carolina will be the victor, 87-74, in the championship game. Will it happen? Will Jimmy keep his win streak intact since his correct predictions for the Super Bowl? Stay tuned! |
