| We’ll Take One: Another day, another newer, more powerful graphics card to buy. ATI released a demonstration of the super powers of its Radeon X800 XT series in the form of a machinima by Far Cry designers Crytek.
Surround Sound on the Go: Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits and Thomson, inventors of the MP3 sound format, announced the creation of the MP3 surround sound format. TSS Fans Strike Back! The Kevin Pereira Anti-Fansite Kit was resoundingly popular, though some entries could’ve used a bit more imagination. Here are the most creative ones sent in:

| The Frag Dolls, a team of female gamers sponsored by Ubisoft who promote games and compete in tournaments, came by The Screen Savers’ studio to school the crew on Ghost Recon 2. Spokeswoman Rhoulette has been gaming since she was six years old and thinks of herself and the team as serious gamers.
“We’re considered a novelty right now, but we’re hoping to break away from that,” she said. “Anybody who talks to us or plays with us knows we’re gamers.” For more info on the Frag Dolls, visit http://fragdolls.com/ |
| For those who enjoy imbibing vodka but can’t afford the kind that actually comes from Russia, Kevin found an interesting method of upgrading the cheap stuff. By sending the crappy vodka through a water filtration system available at any kitchenware store, you can be drinking remarkably less crappy vodka.
Kevin took the idea a step further by creating a five-filter stack that dripped the vodka down, but you can find the original instructions at: ohmygoditburns.com |
The highest rated tattoo photos in our Picture poll were: Andrew’s Predator, Rebecca’s tribal heart, Matt’s dragon, “More Than Meets the Eye’s” Transformer, and Sando’s Joker. Next week’s Cingular Picture Poll theme is piercings. Can’t wait! |
| In tech topics… Let’s Move to Canada: Apple launches iTunes in Canada – and the songs sell for 83 cents apiece. Timeshifting SOBs: The wily TV network habit of not starting and stopping their show on the hour tends to screw up your TiVo recordings. “The Man” Censors Its Own Blog Service: Microsoft’s newly launched blog service comes equipped with its very own censor, says BoingBoing.net. |
| Joseph from Boise, Idaho asked Rhoulette what game titles she started out with as a beginner.
Rhoulette said her earliest game was Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis, but she didn’t get serious about gaming until she got addicted to Everquest in her teens. |
| Godzilla! But will Godzilla Final Wars truly be the last chapter in the 50-year history of the franchise? We doubt if it’ll be “final,” but it is a fitting tribute to the series’ traditions – a true “man in suit” epic. Aintitcool.com’s Moriarty (a recent TSS guest) found it to be truly entertaining.

| What’s the difference between DVD + and DVD – formats?
These days, there’s not much difference to consumers, according to both Kevins. Each format was backed by a different group of manufacturers (notably, Microsoft for +, and Apple for -), but many drives today support both. And prices for the media are about the same. Look at Videohelp.com for further info. What’s the best DVD authoring program? Kevin R. says he thinks the Mac’s offers are best. For consumers, there’s Apple's iDVD and for pro’s there’s DVD Studio Pro. What’s the last James Bond game to appear on the PC? It was apparently James Bond 007: Nightfire in 2002. Rock on. |
| Hip hop star Planet Asia tore apart the studio with a live performance. We’ll have a web-exclusive interview with him next week. In the meantime, learn more at MCplanetasia.com. |
