And for everyone who says Halo is revolutionary and has broken sales records listen up! Do you know what records it has broken because there are a lot of games and game franchises that have sold more games? As for it being revolutionary that is a matter of opinion that I can't agree with. Games like Pong, Pac-man, Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy (games like that) are revolutionary. At this point consoles are revolutionary as opposed to games although aspects of games like graphics are revolutionary. However many games have revolutionary graphics (MGS4, Crisis ect.). There can only be so many revolutions in one industry. To call Halo revolutionary only suits to tarnish the impact of the true revolutions in the video game industry. For me revolutionary games (games as a whole not just individual aspects) ended with FFVII and Ocarina of Time.

halo 3 is a great game, the best one of the three so far. but i don't think it should of won game of the year. i play halo for hours and stood in line to get the game for seven hours, and i was not dissapointed. the halo games are one of my favorit games ever, but sequels shouldn't be alowed to win, give the new games a chance, like mass effect. great story and fun game play, along with bioshock. one of those should of won. and by the way, gta4 is amazing but its almost the same game with a few new things, and call of duty 4 is exactly the same as number two and three, i've played them all. good games, but getting kinda boring.

Okay, just stfu. Halo 3 deserves game of the year. You fanboys are just sad cus your poly pokit solid 4 dolls of the pats did not win GOTY. If you think GTA 4 deserves GOTY, well then you honestly most suck at gaming, because with every GTA game there is the same thing with new stuff. Nothing on Bioshock cus it is great. I have no idea how COD 4 got Best shooting game of the year, but it did not win GOTY. So for all you idiots who think Halo does not deserve it, what's done is done.

No way in HELL is this game worthy of game of the year. I'll admit, I anticipated this games release (cause I loved H2) and counted down the days but in the end H3 was a huge disappointment.

The story was STILL boring and meaningless and multi-player was just a H2 re-hash. There’s nothing new to make it a different experience and by far nothing "revolutionary" (lol, really, is the first time you’ve ever played an fps?).

Then all you people call all those who have a different opinion fanboys, which really makes me laugh cause it only shows you to be exactly the same thing. Accept other people’s opinion. Halo 3 may have won this little popularity contest but that doesn’t mean everyone likes it (cause really, it’s not that great).

And that’s exactly what this is based on: Popularity. Of course Halo 3 is going to win over a game like Bioshock, cause Bioshock had no following and wasn’t marketed to death like Halo was, nor was CoD or MGS4.

H3 didnt deserve this.

Halo 3 is a grate game i must of playd that game online a thousond times and it still dosent get old but the game that i have bin wating for the most time ever in my life and played the most has to be smash bros with a roster of plenty of new charicters and online i dont know how it dident win. its because now a days all people wont to do is buy a game that has insane amount of violince im not saying i dont like to play thoughs tipes of games but thats all people wante to play now a days

Halo 3 sucked,huge dissapointment does not deserve goty,halo 3 only deserves best online but not goty,in my opinion a game that deserves goty is a game with good storyline, good graghics, good vioce acting,fun online(if the game has any), good soundtrack, and cool downloadable content, and halo 3 doesnt have all of those but mgs4 does, snake is the true winner and mgs4 does have what it takes to be goty.

I don't have a PS3, nor do I ever plan on getting one (love my 360) but I know a great game when I see/play one unlike a little fanboy/girl like yourself. I don't see how CoD4 could get boring any quicker than H3 with it's stale multiplayer.

...And XPlay is probably the worst show ever, so saying they didnt understand it aint sayin a whole lot, cause really... I'm sorry if your little mind can't grasp a story like MGS4's. Actually, G4 is only good for Attack of the Show now.

By the way, marketing just doesn't mean commercials. Hell, H3 even had its own soda. LAME! But let's end this on a happy note: I agree... GOW2 will take GOTY 2009. Can't wait for that game.

Unforgiver1994 you I hope your little outburst made you feel good about yourself because you clearly have a lot of problems. Do you ever know what revolutionary means? It means it has some how changes the way games are played or made. It means it made had an impact that will forever be remembered. It does not mean it broke a sales record. In fact that pre-order record only proves it was hyped not that it was a good game. The games I mentioned are truly revolutionary. Pong and Pac-man should be self explanatory (in fact all the games I mentioned could be self-explanatory if you know anything about video games). Mario (the original) paved the way for platforming games. Zelda (original) for action adventure games. Final Fantasy (original) for RPGs. FF7 used the full power of the original playstation to bring cut senses to video games. Without it graphics and cut senses in the games we play now (even Halo 3) would not be what they are today. Those games are truly revolutionary.

Have you read any of the other posts? It seems that half of them are saying how much they hate Halo. That does not bode well for your argument of it being a great game. More importantly did you read your own post? It does not make sense. Mario is a platforming game not an RGP. You don’t even seem to understand why the PS3 is a better system. The PS3 can hold more on screen then the 360 and that will be necessary as games become more complex. Also the 360 has had more reported crashes then the PS3. It has more exclusives and has been outselling the 360 as of late.

Don’t complain just because you can’t understand the story of MGS4. Either you did not play the other games or you are just retarded. The best stories are complex and if you need a simple story that only serves to make seem more retarded. Also the first games I mentioned were a while ago but FFVII and Ocarina of Time were only ten years ago. If you can’t remember what gaming was like ten years ago then you are either too young or too freaking dump (or as I am suspecting both) for your opinion to matter.

Resistance 2 will help but I don't think it alone will do it. Other games like Infamous, FFXIII Versus, LBP and other will contribute. I think the PS3 will eventually catch the 360 at least in terms of revenue. Remember 360 got a head start and the PS3 has started to catch up. In 09 the PS3 should make a charge towards the 360.

I kinda agree with KingSephiroth, but I don't think complexity is always what makes a game's story great. Take BioShock. On a superficial level, it's story was pretty straightforward. But if you looked more analytically at the symbolism, its political implications, and the whole Objectivism and Lazes-faire (sp?) vs. Socialism ordeals, the game really took its players on a more inspired ride (not to mention that they actually bear some connection to present-day).

Gameplay was uninventive and grinding. Sorry 2K. :(

But the aforementioned coupled with its particular artistic style (not wholey realistic, mind you), the soundtrack and soundeffects, and the great model/level designs and game-flow made it an incredibly immersive game.

Had my vote. :S

Like I said a while ago I cant believe Halo 3 actually got game of the year. This game is terrible. It is the worst game on that list and it still got game of the year. I bet this vote was rigged so that it would win since cod4 kicked its ass in last years gyphoria. This game is mediocre anD A waste of hype, since I once thought this game was going to be the bomb, but it turned out to be a dud. horrible choice for game of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And to all you Halo fans that continue to praise the series endlessly lets get it straight. Overall it is a great video game series (and this is coming from a Sony supporter) but far from the best or legendary status. It has a long way to go to catch many other series in terms of sales and in quality. And there are just some series that it will never surpass in both of the aforementioned categories. The halo series is good but it does not have the absolute best games, characters, graphics, campaign, Online play (though it is in the running and will be until MAG), ect. Stop over praising it when it clearly does not deserve it.

Halo 3 SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO deserve this its a great game s@$s@ load of replay value. COD 4 is great so is MGS4. Halo 3 is older and still more fun to play. And yes I have played MGS 4 and COD 4. I have all consoles.
