Left 4 Dead 2 Interview Blowout

By Brian Leahy - Posted Oct 28, 2009

Valve's Left 4 Dead redefined co-operative gameplay when it released last year and the sequel is set to re-re-define (is that possible?) the genre. X-Play's editorial manager and resident zombie-killing expert Abbie Heppe visited Valve Software to bring you interviews and exclusive gameplay footage of Left 4 Dead 2.

First up, Abbie speaks with Chet Faliszek, writer for Left 4 Dead 2, about the game's newly revealed "Realism Mode" and what it brings to the table. Practice your aim... headshots are very important in this mode.

For an extended look at Realism Mode, Abbie was kind enough to narrate some gameplay footage of her and the Valve team playing through "Hard Rain". There is a corn field and a lot of witches. It's a must-see video.

Next, Abbie previews the Scavenge Mode and Survival Mode with Valve programmer Kerry Davis. They talk about what the sequel will bring to Survival Mode as well as what to expect from the all-new Scavenge Mode, which tasks a team of players with collecting precious fuel while fighting off the zombie horde.

Finally, Abbie talks with Left 4 Dead 2's Level Designer Dario Casali to talk about the evolution of level design in the zombie shooter sequel. You'll find out how the sequel's levels will differ from what you may be used to from the original game.

Stay tuned for more great gameplay footage and more on Valve's Left 4 Dead 2!

Defi-BRI-llator...I'm sorry I sound like an ass, but if you're going to say the word over and over, at least google it if you're unsure...I mean, it's not like you'd have a computer or anything nearby to capture gameplay footage... O:-) Wow, I definitely sounded like a total dick...sorry again :-)

Yeah you did, which begs the question, "out of all of these videos, you're ACTUALLY knitpicking on defibrillator?" Get a life much?

Just played the demo, and I have only one word for it- EPIC! All of the changes make the game so much more than L4D1. The thing that most impressed me about the demo was in the second chaper, where you were tasked with running as fast as you can to shut off the alarm, all while masses of infected are chasing you. Although that situation still felt like classic L4D, it also felt extreemely different and challenging. I am looking foward to seeing more when the game comes out on Nov. 17!

I don't see why he can't knitpick on defibrillator. Honestly, its just proper pronunciation. I dont think his comment should have gotten any thumbs down. Its sad how people don't care about language anymore. They think its fine to talk like a 'tard and its completely fine. Idiots.

Thanks for the backup SavageHunter. I'm just saying, I love G4, but if you want to be in the spotlight, professional gaming journalism and all, you've got to know your stuff. Not that the interviews weren't entertaining, mind you...

Why did I waste my money on the first game? That's what I'm wondering.

I can't wait for this one, played the demo last night had a blast!!!
The only problem that I have with it is the same that I have with the first L4D when playing a single player game the AI of the other survivors seems to hurt more than help, for example teammates trying to heal me while a massive horde is biting at our heals! another which happened to me in the new demo was I was knocked to the ground and could not kill 2 zombies that were stomping me because they were in riot gear, so I'm waiting for help and when none came I turned around thinking that the other teammates were far back or were fighting off other zombies that were attacking them, but they were 2 feet back standing there watching and so I died. I also wish that in this one that teammates would at least carry pipebombs or molotavs, and could either use them or pass them off to me when needed (also with the defibrillator.) Now granted that all changes when playing online with others,
but sometimes I like to play solo campaigns.

I want the De-fig unit to be twice as rare as the special ammo. I mean, it will save my butt on expert but it is gonig to be the most insanely anyoning thig on VS.
