Tony Hawk: Ride
Tony Hawk: Ride is a brave attempt to refresh the series with realistic motion controls and a pricey new peripheral. Sadly, the motion controls are awkward and laggy, while the core design is just as focused on the combo-centric gameplay of the older games. It's got its heart in the right place but doesn't quite have the brains to match.

NCAA Basketball 10
College basketball is a two-headed monster of a sport, attracting both devoted fanatics and those who are drawn to the frenzy that is March Madness. EA has done their best to please both parties with NCAA Basketball 10, and the result is a flawed, but generally fun experience.

Assassin's Creed II
It's not uncommon for a developer to take criticism to heart and incorporate changes in ensuing games, but the structural overhaul done to Assassin's Creed II exposes the indefensible flaws of the first game. Some older things didn't get fixed, and some new things were broken in the process, but the Montreal studio is definitely sending the...

F1 2009
F1 2009 delivers an authentic, unforgiving F1 racing experience. Endless customization options and a detailed sim experience will satisfy the pickiest gearhead. But despite attempts to give newbies a rolling start, most gamers will be left in the dust.

LittleBigPlanet Portable
If you weren't a fan of Media Molecule's brilliant platforming/do-it-yourself level-building game, LittleBigPlanet, there is nothing in the new PlayStation Portable version that will change your mind. That's actually a testament to just how fantastic a job the team at SCE Studios Cambridge have done bringing the adorable adventure game to Sony's...
-
Left 4 Dead 2
Left 4 Dead 2 is a worthy sequel and at no point comes across as a game that should have been released as a downloadable expansion to the original. You are getting a true sequel here. Valve may have produced Left 4 Dead 2 in a single year, but it's a game intelligently engineered for fans of the original and meant to frustrate you in the most...

LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues
LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues is a more consistently fun adventure than its predecessor. Why? Shorter, more varied levels, splitscreen co-op, and the ability to toggle and aim items all go a long way toward improving on the prior LEGO games. That's not to say that Traveller's Tales shed all of the slight issues that each game of...

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles improves on 2007's first Resident Evil on-rails shooter The Umbrella Chronicles in every way. RE fans will love returning to old haunts, collecting hundreds of archive items and blasting familiar foes, provided that the camerawork doesn't make them queasy.

Buzz! Quiz World
Buzz! Quiz World is a marked improvement over its predecessor, Buzz! Quiz TV. With support for up to eight players and community-created quizzes, Quiz World represents a great title for teens and families. However, for true trivia buffs, the game doesn't quite beat the buzzer.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii
New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a love note to the 2D series, and in that sense, it evokes the wonderful splendor of the game's past. Enemies long forgotten and mechanics which kept this plumber employed even during the hard times are all present in this title. However, Mario is not without his missteps.

Fallen Earth
While it could be plain bad timing, it's a little difficult to get too excited about another apocalyptic game at the moment. That is strike one. That Fallen Earth attempts to do some new things with the genre -- high-speed transportation from the start, FPS-like handling for ranged attacks -- is great, and a lack of grinding is refreshing....
-
Dragon Ball: Raging Blast
The next-generation successor to Spike's Budokai Tenkaichi games, Raging Blast doesn't have its predecessor's massive character count, but it makes up in a couple of critical ways. In high definition, it looks about as good as a Dragon Ball game ever will, and this is the first time the series has featured a smooth, lag-free online mode. Though...
-
Nostalgia
Nostalgia is an awkward mix of 19th century colonial whimsy and the rigid gameplay of old school role-playing games. It has all of the right ingredients to be a crafty throwback, but its repetitive formula and rote combat take all the sweetness out of the cake.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Nobody does war like Infinity Ward. Its 'Call of Duty' titles have evolved from excellent examples of the first-person shooter genre to a redefinition of what gamers expect from a war title. With 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2', Infinity Ward takes the already solid foundation laid in 'Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare' and polishes it to a...

Magna Carta 2
Innovation isn't necessarily the hallmark of a great game. There are plenty of examples of games built around unique concepts that failed in their implementation. There are also games that don't innovate at all, but are so well executed, they're still outstanding titles. Unfortunately, Magna Carta 2, a Japanese-style RPG from Korean developers...
