G4 LAUNCHES WII PORTAL, THE FIRST NETWORK TELEVISION WEB SITE OPTIMIZED FOR WII’S INTERNET BROWSER
New G4 Portal Features Exclusive Content and Streamlined Navigation Designed Specifically for Use With Full Version of Wii Opera Browser
LOS ANGELES – April 13, 2007 — G4 is going deeper inside the world of videogames than ever before with the launch of a Wii-specific G4 Internet portal, the first network Web site optimized specifically for use through the Wii™ Web browser. Owners of the Wii console now have immediate access to a wide array of G4’s best content, including streaming video, photos, news, game reviews and more.
“G4 viewers are amazingly tech-savvy and incredibly connected. Their rapid adoption of the Wii is something we simply couldn’t ignore,” said Joshua Krane, vice president of new media and interactive, G4. “G4 viewers have come to expect access to our content wherever, whenever and however they want it. Our Wii portal is a perfect demonstration of our commitment to the audience and the unique way they consume media.”
The optimized site, which is now available to Wii users at http://www.g4tv.com, takes advantage of the Wii’s unique control scheme. Enhancements include optimized video playback, larger font sizes and modified layouts that increase legibility of text, combined with simplified menus designed for use with the Wii Remote.
In addition to navigation enhancements, the G4 portal features the following optimized content areas:
Videos – The optimized site makes an extensive library of exclusive G4 videos easily accessible and instantly streamable. Clips from a wide array of G4 programming are available, including popular series such “Attack of the Show,” “X-Play,” “Cheat” and more.
The Feed – It’s easier than ever for Wii users to keep up with all the news that matters most. Clicking on the link for “The Feed” within the optimized site opens the informational floodgates and grants immediate access to G4’s breaking news service.
Photos – Tons of G4 photo galleries let Wii users catch a unique glimpse inside G4. Nearly everything that happens on the network is captured for posterity and served to users for convenient browsing straight from the Wii.
G4’s new Wii portal is the latest addition to the G4 Multiplex, which provides convenient access to G4 programming via an assortment of digital platforms, including:
• G4 Mobile
• G4 Podcasts
• G4 Video Pile
• G4 On Demand
G4 notifies viewers of programming available on alternate platforms via a brief, on-screen animated sequence presented at the beginning of each show. Visitors to G4tv.com can access dedicated platform pages that either provide a direct link to content or provide detailed access instructions.
