Olivia Munn and Alex Albrecht review the BFG Phobos PC, perfect for all your gaming needs with an Intel Core processor, 6 GB of RAM and an 8" touch screen, all starting at $3,000. This all sounds swell, but find out if this hefty machine is worth your green.
What You Need to Know
- This thing is actually larger than most gaming PCs, which is saying a lot
- It is almost 2’ high and 9” deep, so it's going to take up a lot of space
- The PC looks cool and intimidating
- You plug in your connections on the bottom; you have to unscrew the one thumb-screw and take off the metal bracket and from there, you have to turn the computer on its side, plug everything in, and refasten the screw
- This gives it a nice clean look since all the cords are in one place
- The process is a giant pain in the ass, but to be fair, their Concierge Service will do it all for free when they deliver it
- This is the first gaming pc with a touch screen mounted on it; it does things like play music, show detailed system info and even overclock
- If you're running Windows Media Player, you can control it all directly from the screen, so you won't even need to use the computer
- You can also see how much hard drive space you have left or how much of your processor and memory is being used
- Overclocking the system is probably the easiest we've seen yet; just tap max, and this ramps up the CPU and video cards
- The PC has an Intel Core i7 processor, 2 GTX 275s and 6 GB of RAM
- In our normal 3DMark Vantage tests, it did pretty well with a score of about 23,850 points; to put that in perspective, it's only about 3,000 points short of our fastest machine
- Games look incredibly smooth and the one-touch overclock really did give us a performance boost
Price
- The system we demoed is about $3,450, which is pricey
- The problem is, the faster Maingear machine was $500 less
Overall Rating
- 3.5 Seals of Approval out of 5 (How do we rate gadgets?)
