Battlestar Galactica Changes the UN Charter
Posted By: Moye Ishimoto - Monday, July 27, 2009 5:29 PM

Note: Though Edward James Olmos was correct in the United Nations changing its language on race, their actions were reflected in their Durban Review Conference, global summit on combating racism, which now states:

6. Reaffirms that all peoples and individuals constitute one human family, rich in diversity, and that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights; and strongly rejects any doctrine of racial superiority along with theories which attempt to determine the existence of so-called distinct human races."

Though the United Nations' charter has not been amended, Olmos' strong advocacy for human rights on behalf of Battlestar Galactica has clearly influenced the mindset of the global organization.

It's hard not to stop and listen respectfully when Admira Adama arrives with some big news. Edward James Olmos visited Attack of the Show earlier today to talk about Comic-Con 09 and directing Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, which follows the story of the Cylons parallel to the original BSG series.

More exciting was Olmos' announcement about his show's influence on the United Nations, which has officially changed its charter after meeting with the Battlestar Galactica stars over human rights last March. Per Olmos, the UN will no longer use the word "race" as a cultural determinant; instead, we will all be considered a part of one race: humans (unless you're a Cylon).

Watch Olmos excitedly announce this groundbreaking change to Kevin Pereira. So say we all!

Admiral Adama also took time to share his feelings about the Battlestar Galactica finale for a special web interview. Keep an eye out fo the full interview tomorrow!

Edward James Olmos is a cool guy to meet with. I got the pleasure to meet him when he did an episode of "The George Lopez Show".

I'm curious. Does Mr. Olmos condemn the Latino advocacy group "La Raza," which literally translates to "the Race?" To the best of my knowledge, the group does not purport to advocate for the entire human race.

for years i have been telling people that i'm not from a nation and people just look at me all weird insisting(then where are you from ,where was i born)and i tell them no where,i'm human ,i dress goth as much as i can for a reason to go against the norm,i,m sick of all these imaginary lines and boundaries seperating everyone all of us,religions, television brainwahshing telling us what to do and wear, there really is no normal state except for what the majority says is okay, thats why i changed my name to zerox ,, so when i saw the show the other day i was cotent to hear that at least some people in this world kinda has the same ideals as i do,,,thank you very much edward and the others,i have new respect for society as well as very much to edward,,,we all need new ways to think diferrently ,,i almost gave up on my fellow humans as well as myself as a person

I really find it hard to believe the UN didn't shoot him down for getting race and ethnicity mixed up. Race is a term used to classify humans based on appearance. The term human race is nothing more than improper usage of the term race.

It seems to me like he just got too caught up in his sci fi world to realize what race is. This really makes me hope that the UN never invites another TV show to speak. Like Star Trek or any of those "we want to create our own science" type of shows. They are entertaining, but you really have to realize stuff in those shows aren't real.

Granted, future inventions will be named after objects in those shows, however the show itself probably had little to nothing to do with the invention of the device. With few exceptions.
