Here are some links for keeping your downloads anonymous. You won't be 100% safe, but at least you'll be
safer.
Use
Azureus, our favorite BitTorrent client.
Install
Safepeer through Azureus' plugins menu.
If you're feeling brave,
install and configure I2P for Azureus. I2P is a closed network that will allow you to share files anonymously with others using I2P. It's not very user friendly yet, but it has a bright future.
If you truly want to be on the bleeding edge, check out
Tor and
Rodi.
Tor is an anonymizer application that works with almost any networkable application, including BitTorrent and web surfing.
Rodi is being heralded as the new BitTorrent. It's completely separate of BitTorrent and allows for anonymity via IP spoofing. Not many people are using Rodi, but that may change soon.
Other tips:Don't share too many files. The RIAA has made targets of people sharing thousands of files. You should share a number far less than that -
think 50.
Avoid Kazaa, iMesh, Grokster and other apps that use the FastTrack network. They're loaded with junk and are scrutinized by everyone from the RIAA to the MPAA.
Don't let other users browser your shared folder. This is an option in most P2P software and will keep
the bad guys from seeing every file you're sharing at a glance.
Don't share or download illegal files (as if you didn't already know). There are plenty of
great places to find
free stuff.
